All together now…

The official opening of the AMEN: A Prayer for the World exhibition at Washington DC’s magnificent National Cathedral was a huge success. The setting could not have been more appropriate for the 48 life sized figures in prayer interpreted by 30 Egyptian and 18 Western artists of all faiths and creeds.

AMENIt was a thrill to see people grasping the concept of scanning the QR code on my angel’s chest to arrive at the website virtualangel.weebly.com in order to send a personal message to the world. It’s not too late to go to the website and participate – I hope to publish a book of the compiled messages and have it available to raise money for the charity supported by the CARAVAN NGO who founded these annual international exhibitions promoting interfaith and intercultural understanding. I am proud to announce that my interactive figure was acquired by the traveling show’s major sponsor SODIC, the largest real estate company in the Middle East.

AMEN (6)At least for this one night, there was an undeniable sense of people coming together and sharing the world as one.

I was interviewed about my work on Washington-based Middle East Broadcasting Network Alhurra (link to the broadcast segment in Arabic here). As a Jewish artist, I felt there were some particularly memorable moments:

Meeting Ambassador Mohamed Tawfik, Egyptian ambassador to the US

The official opening at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in NYC is yet to be announced, but the show stays in Washington DC till October 6th. I will be on hand to greet visitors on September 20 between 1-3 pm together with fellow artist Lynn Goldstein.
