Visit to Israel

After a succesful opening at Cross MacKenzie Gallery in DC (blog entry June 22) and the smooth installation of my work at the Fuller Museum in Brockton (blog entry May29), it was time to get away. My favorite place is Tel Aviv, Israel. I can’t seem to get enough of my family, friends, beach, and generally recharging my batteries.

I did manage to squeeze in some art stuff in the 10 days I was there. I visited the studio of up and coming Jerusalem painter Shai Azoulai, who will shortly be featured in Art Forum. I also saw a great group of videos in Jaffa. Each video artist was allotted a separate room for viewing. My favorite was a short animated piece by Noor Tadjer. And I made an interesting contact with a relatively new gallery Shoham.  On returning to DC I emailed a friend lamenting on what I had left behind: “Where are the throngs of people from all corners of the world, the smell of spices from the souk, the shouts of street hawkers, the relentless beating sun, the beat of Middle Eastern music mixed with American rap, the sheer vitality of a young city full of raw creative enrgy?” That about sums it up.
